Description:
This unit examines the development and implementation of Science programs in Australian secondary schools. Particular emphasis is given to teaching within NSW schools. The unit is designed to develop competence in science teaching from Year 7 to 10 by focusing on practical aspects of contemporary science education.

The major areas of study include: aims and objectives for science courses, teaching strategies, lesson planning, the use of various textual and curriculum materials, professional skills and pupil management, laboratory organization and safety, pupil variables, resource selection and assessment procedures.

Assessment includes assignments.

Prerequisites: 1/9 degree in Physics or Chemistry and 3/9 degree in another subject chosen from Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Geology or permission of Head of Department. Students with credit for Ed CS 975-1 cannot take this unit for credit.
